Discovering Beauty in Faith: Tami Hymas's Journey

Discovering Beauty in Faith: Tami Hymas's Journey

This week on the Why We Believe show, I had the privilege of speaking with Tami Hymas. Tami is a CEO, beauty expert, and the founder of BeUtofullness and inUpowers. She shared her inspiring journey of faith, from her early years as a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to her current role as a spiritual leader and entrepreneur. Throughout her life, Tami has witnessed the transformative power of faith and the beauty that comes from embracing one's divine nature.

Today, we'll explore the key elements of Tami's spiritual journey and how they can inspire us to discover the beauty in our own faith. We'll look at the power of personal revelation, the importance of surrender, the lessons learned through trials, and the beauty of seeing God's handiwork in ourselves and others.

The Power of Personal Revelation

Tami's journey began when she was nine years old, but it wasn't until her college years that she had a profound spiritual experience. Feeling unfulfilled despite achieving worldly success, Tami decided to challenge God directly. She opened her scriptures to Alma 32:28, which speaks of planting a seed of faith in one's heart. This moment of personal revelation became the foundation of her unwavering commitment to her faith.

Personal revelation can come to all of us. It often requires us to step out of our comfort zones, ask difficult questions, and be open to receiving answers in unexpected ways. Tami's experience reminds us that when we sincerely seek truth, God is willing to answer.

Tami's story emphasizes the importance of actively seeking revelation. She didn't passively wait for answers but boldly challenged God to prove His existence. This approach demonstrates that personal revelation often comes when we earnestly engage with our faith, asking questions and seeking understanding with real intent.

The Importance of Surrender

Throughout her life, Tami has learned the value of surrendering to God's will. She describes herself as a "bratty, obedient daughter of God," acknowledging that following divine guidance isn't always easy. However, she's discovered that surrendering to God's plan, even when it's challenging, leads to growth and blessings.

Surrender doesn't mean giving up our agency. Instead, it's about aligning our will with God's and trusting in His greater plan for our lives. As we learn to surrender, we open ourselves to receiving divine guidance and support.

Tami's candid description of herself as a "bratty, obedient daughter of God" illustrates the human struggle in surrender. It reminds us that obedience and faith don't always come easily, even for the most committed believers. This honesty can be comforting to those who find themselves struggling with their own journey of faith and surrender.

Learning Through Trials

Tami's life changed dramatically after a skiing accident left her with a severe knee injury and debilitating vertigo. During this challenging time, she learned valuable lessons about the gift of her body and the importance of gratitude. This experience led her to develop her concept of "BeUtofullness," which emphasizes the beauty of being a whole, unique individual.

Trials are an inevitable part of life, but they can also be our greatest teachers. When we approach our challenges with faith and an open heart, we can discover profound truths about ourselves, our relationship with God, and our purpose in life.

Tami's response to her trials exemplifies the transformative power of adversity when approached with faith. Instead of becoming bitter or discouraged, she used her experience as a catalyst for personal growth and to develop a concept that could help others. This demonstrates how our trials can become platforms for serving and uplifting others when we allow God to work through our challenges.

Seeing God's Handiwork in Diversity

One of Tami's most powerful insights is her ability to see the beauty and potential in others. She views the diversity in nature and humanity as evidence of God's existence and His intricate design. This perspective has shaped her approach to beauty and her understanding of human worth.

By recognizing the divine spark in ourselves and others, we can cultivate greater compassion, empathy, and love. This awareness can transform our relationships and help us see the world through God's eyes.

Tami's perspective on diversity as evidence of God's existence offers a unique and inspiring way to view the world around us. It encourages us to look beyond surface differences and see the divine craftsmanship in every person and every aspect of nature. This viewpoint can foster greater appreciation for the world around us and help us develop a more inclusive and loving approach to others.

Continuing the Journey

Tami's story reminds us that faith is a lifelong journey. It requires constant nurturing, occasional course corrections, and a willingness to learn and grow. As we continue on our own spiritual paths, we can draw inspiration from Tami's experiences and insights.

This week, I invite you to reflect on your own journey of faith. Consider how personal revelation has shaped your beliefs, how surrender has brought blessings into your life, what lessons you've learned through trials, and how you can better recognize the divine beauty in yourself and others.

Remember, constructing a life of faith is an ongoing process. It begins with recognizing our divine nature and potential, and it continues as we choose each day to align our lives with God's teachings. As Tami's story shows us, when we embrace this journey, we can discover profound beauty, purpose, and joy in our lives.
